The Dragon Queen Part III

Updated: Aug 28, 2022

The black dragon halted near the mountain's peak, keeping his distance. He was nearly as large as the peak, towering above the other dragons. He could fit into the fortress halls so long as no one stood on either side of him.

The dragon growled, lashing his tail, only using body language and primitive growls to communicate. I come from the stars, seeking a treasure that was once mine, forged by me, the dragon smith.

"What is this treasure?" demanded the dragon queen.

The dragon smith hissed, smoke rising from his nostrils. His ears twitched. An object containing the light of the stars. He stared right at the dragon queen, as if piercing her soul.

Dragons murmured anxiously. The queen subconsciously touched her silver circlet. It was wrought from silver vines, woven together to form its shape. She pulled her talon away. "What is the object?" The other dragon sighed, nodding to the queen's head. The circlet.

"How do we know you aren't lying?" demanded the queen's advisor, coming forward. The advisor dragon glimmered like a fractured mirror with her silver scales in the sunlight, a stark contrast to the newcomer.

The smith flared his wings in annoyance. I am growing to be larger than any of you Earthling dragons. To prove his point, in the moment he flared his wings, showing the other side, glowed a faint white.

It could also be the trick of the sun.

The dragon smith added ominously, lashing his tail and more smoke pouring from his nostrils, curling around his pearly white horns, And my fire is white, unlike any of yours. If you do not return what is mine, once lost to time and now found, much worse than me will descend from the stars.

He breathed a short burst of pure-white fire, his dark eyes glittering with impending doom.
