The Kingdom of Dragons Part VI

The dragon smith had outshone the sun and the moon. His glowing creation was a towering tree inspired by the trees he had seen on Earth. Its leaves were delicately forged then dipped in gold and silver. The tree had vines with tiny emeralds embedded within and carved rubies creating the flowers of the tree. Small pieces of opals were scattered around the "bark" of the tree. The tree shone like a second, smaller, moon, or like a white dwarf star. From the distance, it could be mistaken for another source of light from space, hovering over the horizon permanently.

The dragon smith, admiring the tree, invited the king and the sea dragon to come and see. They came promptly, flying to the outskirts within a day, to the island.

The king was in awe and greatly rewarded the dragon smith with many more resources and project ideas.

"If the sun ever dies, if the moon never shines again," said the king, "the light of this kingdom will never die." The sea dragon was more skeptical, wondering what the tree did besides glow and shine with thousands of sparkling gems.

***

The king passed away quietly in the following years, his heir, the sea dragon, taking the throne. After reviewing how many resources were left in the kingdom, her first act as queen was trying to negotiate with the dragon smith to preserve what little resources they had left. The dragon smith refused to stop creating on the scales he did, and so the dragons voted to have him exiled. As great as creations from starlight were, the kingdom's survival was on the line.

And so, the dragon smith was forced to flee. However, that would not be the last time the queen and the dragons of the kingdom would see the dragon smith, but that is a tale for another time.

THE END.
